Director of the Agency for Small and Mid-Sized Businesses, Ministry of Economy

Since 2009, Ran has directed the Agency for Small and Mid-Sized Businesses responsible for promoting development in the small and mid-size business sectors in Israel. The Agency acts to increase business productivity by decreasing the effects of market failures on this sector and by diminishing negative government influence, while focusing on special sectors and populations to respond effectively to specific failures.
Between the years 2008-2009, Ran was manager of the staff for development of the Negev and Galilee in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Employment. This staff was responsible for implementation of the various government decisions related to the periphery, foremost among them the decision to "promote and develop the industrial and service sectors in peripheral areas".
Among his previous positions, Ran was director of the Tmura Fund in the Israel Chief Scientist Bureau in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Employment. In the context of this Fund Ran dealt with collection of royalties, implementing accounting and technological oversight, and analysis of the business activity of supported companies. He was also a member of the Chief Scientist Bureau's management forum.
Between the years 1997-2001, Ran served as assistant to the director of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Employment's Investment Center, where he managed the Center's ongoing budget and participated in formulating work procedures for assessing investment programs.
Ran has an MA in Economics and a BA with distinction in Economics and Business Management, both from the Ben Gurion University. He is a graduate of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Employment's attache course that trains staff to represent the government abroad, and of a course in senior business management in the Chief Scientist's Bureau.
משנת 2009 מנהל רן את הסוכנות לעסקים קטנים ובינוניים המופקדת על הטיפול בפיתוח מגזר העסקים הקטנים והבינוניים בישראל. הסוכנות פועלת להגדלת התוצר העסקי באמצעות צמצום השפעתם של כשלי שוק על מגזר זה והקטנת ההשפעה הממשלתית השלילית תוך מיקוד בסקטורים ואוכלוסיות מיוחדות על מנת לטפל בכשלים ספציפיים.
בין השנים 2009-2008 היה רן מנהל המטה לפיתוח הנגב והגליל במשרד התמ"ת, אשר היה אמון על יישום החלטות הממשלה השונות הנוגעות לפריפריה ובראשן ההחלטה ל"קידום ופיתוח ענפי התעשייה והשירותים באזורי הפריפריה".
בין תפקידיו הקודמים היה רן מנהל קרן תמורה של לשכת המדען הראשי במשרד התעשייה המסחר והתעסוקה. במסגרת קרן זו עסק רן בהפעלת מערך לגביית תמלוגים, הפעלת מערך ביקורות חשבונאיות וטכנולוגיות, ניתוח פעילות עסקית של חברות נתמכות ושימש חבר בפורום ההנהלה של לשכת המדען הראשי.
בין השנים 2001-1997 שימש רן עוזר למנהל מרכז ההשקעות במשרד התעשייה והמסחר, אז ניהל את התקציב השוטף של המרכז והיה שותף בגיבוש נהלי עבודה לבחינת תכניות השקעה.
לרן תואר שני בכלכלה ותואר ראשון בכלכלה ובמנהל עסקים בהצטיינות, שניהם מטעם אוניברסיטת בן גוריון.
רן בוגר הקורס להכשרת נציגים כלכליים בחו"ל (קורס נספחים) של משרד התעשייה והמסחר וקורס ניהול עסקי בכיר למנהלים בלשכת המדען הראשי.
